Education Tasmania - At the Heart of Learning

Why Tasmania?

There are thousands of places around the world that an international student can go to study, so why choose Tasmania? Here are just some of the reasons why Tasmania is the perfect environment for study, work and play.

The Perfect Study Environment

Parents would be happy to know that Tasmania is a safe place which, while extremely modern, has a slower pace. There are  fewer distractions in the smaller cities of Tasmania compared to the urban landscapes of those big cities such as Sydney and Melbourne in mainland Australia. Students also benefit from smaller classroom sizes and personalised interaction with teachers and counsellors.

High-Quality Education and Training

Tasmania attracts some of the world’s best educators. The University of Tasmania, for example, is well known for its comprehensive research in many different areas from medicine to natural sciences. People who study in Tasmania benefit from qualifications and training which are accepted in mainland Australia and in most places all over the world.

Safe, Clean and Green

In Tasmania, crime levels are low and people benefit from a strong sense of personal security.

Tasmania is also very clean and naturally beautiful. People travel from all locations around the globe to see some of Tasmania’s unique and extraordinary rainforests, trees, mountains, flora and fauna. Tasmania also has one of the first towns in the world to totally ban plastic bags, emphasising the local government and individual citizens' commitment to conservation and environment.

Friendship

Wherever you go in Tasmania you are bound to find a friendly face. Tasmanians are generally very relaxed, happy and outgoing people willing to lend a helping hand.

Don’t speak English? Really shy? It doesn’t matter. You’ll make friends quickly and easily and if you have any problems you can always talk to the international student advisor at your place of study.

Fun and Adventure

School in Tasmania runs from Monday to Friday with some exceptions. Each weekend and during school holidays you’ll have the opportunity to travel and explore because no matter where you go in Tasmania, travel takes no more than five hours. Hiking or bushwalking is very popular with national parks full of trails located all over the state.

Kayaking, white water rafting, hang gliding, mountaineering, climbing and snowboarding are only some of the other adventures you can seek out. Fun in the city includes art exhibitions, concerts, plays, fairs, festivals, cruises, movies and tours. Often you’ll see Tasmanians sitting outside in cafes enjoying the fresh air and companionship.

Depending on the time of year, you can enjoy all different types of outdoor festivals such as the immensely popular Taste of Tasmania, which runs from the end of December to the beginning of January each year and the Falls Festival which brings some of Australia’s best musical artists to ring in the new year over three days of food, music and camping.

The institution where you’re studying will also have lots of options for fun activities during your time in Tasmania.

Support

If you need help with study or personal issues, there will always be someone to help you. Whether it’s your Homestay family or an International Student Advisor, someone will be able to give you advice on any problem you might have.  Communication is very important for your own comfort while in Tasmania. You should be willing to talk to someone about any issue. They can only help if you tell them what’s wrong.

Learn English

There are several methods for you to learn English in Tasmania. Firstly, taking an English course is an excellent idea. There are many to choose from and at different levels. You can also learn how to speak better English just by day-to-day communication with locals.

If you work part-time while you’re here, this will only help you learn faster. Good on ya!  Not only will you be able to learn English but you’ll pick up some Aussie slang too, which you can share with your family and friends when you get home. You’ll be surprised at how easily you pick up some truly Tasmanian ways of talking.

Tassie’s Just Different

A combination of all these things makes Tasmania the ideal destination for any international student looking for peace and quiet to study, part-time work, adventure and life-long friendships. Come to Tasmania and you’ll have a fantastic experience.
