Where Is Tasmania?

Tasmania is a beautiful island state separated from mainland Australia by the Bass Strait and is home to around 500,000 people. It is situated between 41 and 43 degrees south of the equator.

Tasmania is recognised worldwide for its clean, natural landscapes and modern but safe environment.

The weather in Tasmania is mild year round with 4 seasons, Spring (September to November), Summer (December to February), Autumn (March to May) and Winter (June to August). If you’re used to a warm climate, you might take a few weeks to adjust to Tasmania’s cooler temperatures. Locals call it “Tassie”, a fond nickname for a place that is beloved to many.

Mark Twain, the American novelist, travelling through on a lecture tour, arrived in Hobart in 1895. This is how he described what he saw:

'How beautiful is the whole region, for form, and grouping, and opulence and freshness of foliage, and variety of colour, and grace and shapeliness of the hills, the capes, the promontories; and then, the splendour of the sunlight, the dim rich distances, the charm of the water-glimpses!'
